Declaring Bankruptcy Can be the First Step Towards Rebuilding a Life

Recent events have made the unthinkable a real possibility for many American families: Bankruptcy. This is, largely, something that has been brought on through no fault of their own as, often after having worked as a dedicated employee for years, their primary breadwinner might find themselves without a job or, as is the case with many small business owners, circumstances beyond their control have created an unstable commercial environment that has contributed to the demise of their once thriving enterprises. Such people have probably always been, and hopefully always will be, proud of themselves and their accomplishments, however that same pride and sense of fiscal responsibility might end up deterring them from declaring bankruptcy.

Though often treated as a term that is loaded with negative connotations, it must be noted that bankruptcy itself is a type of legal declaration that is intended to help people rehabilitate their fiscal status while protecting their core assets from creditors. In other words, filing for bankruptcy is an act that can help an individual or family get back on its feet and eventually progress in life. There is no reason, therefore, for anyone to avoid it if its declaration really can help save their future financial security.

There are, of course, many reasons to avoid declaring bankruptcy and, in fact, the courts currently require that every insolvency filing be subjected to a 'means test' before such a request is granted. For those who find themselves with an absolute need to either file a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 claim, however, our experienced Chicago bankruptcy attorneys look forward to providing the standard of quality counsel needed to make sure that everyone who needs help with such rehabilitation feels both protected and optimistic about their future.
